Wake Me Once the Market’s Sleepwalking Ends – The Market Breadth

Stock Market Commentary: The no worries stock market is sleepwalking its way through April. The major indices are stuck in tight ranges near or at key technical resistance and support levels. Yet, market breadth remains relatively low as many of the big market leaders hold up the tent. Meandering economic data induces some of this … Read more

No Worries As Volatility Rewinds to the Start of 2022 – The Market Breadth

no worries (Credit: david-o.net on Flickr)

Stock Market Commentary: Last week I described how to reconcile a stock market that was both complacent and oversold. The stock market proceeded from there to double down on complacency while rebounding from “close enough to oversold” levels for market breadth. Traders are showing no worries as the volatility index (VIX) plunged to levels last … Read more

Riding the Bitcoin Trend: Buy-the-Dip Strategy for BTC/USD

On Friday, September 7, at 9:30 a.m., a parachute test for a future mission to Mars successfully launched on a NASA Black Brant IX suborbital sounding rocket from Wallops Flight Facility. The rocket carried the Advanced Supersonic Parachute Inflation Research Experiment (ASPIRE) from NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California. The payload is a bullet-nosed, cylindrical structure holding a supersonic parachute, the parachute's deployment mechanism, and the test's high-definition instrumentation, including cameras, to record data. The payload descended by parachute and splashed-down in the Atlantic Ocean 28 miles from Wallops Island. The parachute was successfully recovered and returned to Wallops for data retrieval and inspection.

Bitcoin Uptrend Analysis The trend is a friend for Bitcoin (BTC/USD) again. All three of the major moving averages are pointing upward for Bitcoin. This synchronization of the 20-day moving average (DMA), 50DMA, and the 200DMA supports a buy-the-dip strategy after the big March breakout in the wake of the banking Panic of 2023. Assuming … Read more

“We are encouraged that inflation is declining, and we are seized with the importance of staying the course and restoring price stability for Canadians. Inflation is coming down quickly and is forecast to be around 3% this summer. The economy is expected to grow modestly even as inflation comes down. This is good news, but it is not job done.” “Monetary … Read more

Stock Market Commentary: Just a week ago, the stock market was teasing oversold conditions. The lingering memories of the Panic of 2023 seemed likely to push the market deeper into oversold territory before sellers exhausted themselves into a market rebound. Buyers decided not to wait. A broad-based buying spree conspired to leave regional banks behind … Read more

Housing Market Intro and Summary Real estate is local. Regional banks often sit at the heart of local communities. So it seems odd writing about the relative strength in the housing market in the wake of the Panic of 2023 that featured the historic collapse of two regional banks, Silicon Valley Bank (SIVB) and Signature … Read more

What Happened When I Asked ChatGPT About Commercial Real Estate

commercial real estate

ChatGPT Speaks I continue to find interesting and valuable ways to use ChatGPT. After listening to a segment on CNBC’s Fast Money that wrangled over the risks in commercial real estate, I decided to ask ChatGPT a topical question: “What publicly traded commercial real estate REITs struggled the most during the great financial crisis?” I … Read more

Emergency Exit Looms As Market Teases Oversold Conditions – The Market Breadth

Stock Market Commentary: The Federal Reserve was an anti-climactic headliner last week. The Fed proceeded with a 25 basis points rate hike couched in words that suggested that inflation remained the Fed’s biggest concern. In the Q&A portion of the press conference, Chair Jerome Powell essentially downgraded the Panic of 2023 to the Speed Bump … Read more

AI race (Credit: Fuyoh! on Flickr)

Stock Market Commentary: The trade on Generative AI took a surprising turn last week as investors and traders rushed to related names as if they offered safety from the banking Panic of 2023. Some stocks shot straight up for the week. The renewed interest surprised me because I just happened to write about this trade … Read more

Stock Market Commentary: A sobering thought: American capitalism has yet to figure out how to sustain a stable banking system. The U.S. created the Federal Reserve system in 1914 as a response to the lessons from the banking Panic of 1907 and yet bank runs, bank panics, and bank failures continue to headline market dynamics … Read more
