  • Five years ago, Marketplace visited China for a series of special reports. During our special two-week broadcast, we covered a wide range of stories — many involving China's rapid economic growth. Some of the topics we looked at include the hidden price of China's pace, its move toward a greener economy, whether Americans should fear the Asian nation, and young Chinese adults coming to grips with the implications of having a disposable income.

But five years is a long time, one financial crisis and a global recession away. Now, Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal and a small team return to China to retrace the steps they took five years ago. Along the way they'll see first-hand how China has changed since that first visit in 2006 — and what it all means for U.S. consumers and businesses.
