In this modern era, Bitcoin (BTC\/USD) offers the promise of a digital store in value. Accordingly, Nigeria has returned to the number one spot in the world for national share of searches taken by Bitcoin <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=today%203-m&amp;q=%2Fm%2F05p0rrx&amp;hl=en\">according to Google trends<\/a> ( see &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/trends\/answer\/4355212\">Explore results by region<\/a>&#8221; for a detailed definition of the regional view of Google search trends).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240203_Google-Trends-Worldwide-searches-for-Bitcoin-last-90-days.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"953\" height=\"847\" src=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240203_Google-Trends-Worldwide-searches-for-Bitcoin-last-90-days.png\" alt=\"Nigeria is number one in the world in share of national searches used on the keyword &quot;Bitcoin&quot;\" class=\"wp-image-67491\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240203_Google-Trends-Worldwide-searches-for-Bitcoin-last-90-days.png 953w, https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/20240203_Google-Trends-Worldwide-searches-for-Bitcoin-last-90-days-768x683.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 953px) 100vw, 953px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong><em>Nigeria is number one in the world in share of national searches used on the keyword &#8220;Bitcoin&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=2021-01-01%202021-12-31&amp;q=%2Fm%2F05p0rrx&amp;hl=en\">Nigeria was second to El Salvador in 2021<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=2022-01-01%202022-12-31&amp;q=%2Fm%2F05p0rrx&amp;hl=en\">2022<\/a> in share of Google queries spent on Bitcoin after losing the #1 spot <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=2020-01-01%202020-12-31&amp;q=%2Fm%2F05p0rrx&amp;hl=en\">in 2020<\/a> when Ghana and South Africa rounded out the top three. <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=2023-01-01%202023-12-31&amp;q=%2Fm%2F05p0rrx&amp;hl=en\">The country  jumped back to #1 in 2023<\/a> and remains there <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=2024-01-01%202024-02-03&amp;q=%2Fm%2F05p0rrx&amp;hl=en\">year-to-date for 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Nigerians lead the world in share of searches on Bitcoin, <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=today%205-y&amp;geo=NG&amp;q=%2Fm%2F05p0rrx&amp;hl=en\">relative search interest within the country<\/a> has remained stable since soaring to a peak in 2022. So the global comparison is key to understanding and contextualizing the intensity of interest in Bitcoin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1196033822186410\" data-ad-slot=\"3478942445\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Great Devaluation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Nigerians have suffered an on-going devaluation in the currency for years. The freefall accelerated in the past 9 months thanks to government action to rationalize the foreign exchange for the currency. Last year&#8217;s move was supposed to close the gap with the black market rates. This year&#8217;s action is supposed to attract investors to the country. If the gambit works, the subsequent growth could finally carve out  a bottom for Nigeria&#8217;s economic prospects. Last year NGE looked like it was stabilizing albeit in a wide range. Last week&#8217;s trading action destroyed that hope. Yet, of course, such a hope was expressed many times before. Still, this recent devaluation is swift and severe and should bring the currency in-line with real market values. While I would like to give NGE one more try, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.globalxetfs.com\/prospectus-regulatory\/?id=67\">the ETF is being liquidated<\/a>.
