After that year, Google trends for the term &#8220;gold&#8221; essentially flatlined. When <a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2023\/01\/15\/parabolic-gold-and-crypto-in-focus-with-looming-debt-drama\/\">gold went parabolic to start 2022<\/a>, the GTMC for &#8220;gold&#8221; failed to trigger. The extremes in search interest stopped materializing along with extremes in price. When gold went parabolic in the first few months of the massive injection of liquidity into the COVID-19 economy, Google search yawns greeted the inevitable peak (August, 2020). However, it turns out I needed to shift my gaze about 90 degrees. Thanks to a closing note from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketplace.org\/shows\/marketplace\/all-that-space-bed-bath-beyond-will-leave-behind\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marketplace&#8217;s April 24th broadcast<\/a>, I learned that the GTMC for gold may have shifted to a new search term: &#8220;how to buy gold.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1196033822186410\" data-ad-slot=\"3478942445\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8220;<strong>How to Buy Gold&#8221; As An Indicator of Gold Sentiment<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As a reminder, the GTMC works inversely to price action at the extremes. When search interest reaches an extreme in parallel with an extreme in price action, then sentiment in the direction of the price action is also at an extreme. Whether the extreme is high or low, I anticipate some kind of reversal. In the most extreme cases, this reversal marks the end of the price direction, a lasting top or a bottom. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=all&amp;geo=US&amp;q=how%20to%20buy%20gold&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">U.S. google searches on the term &#8220;how to buy gold&#8221;<\/a> index higher, so far, than any other month on record except for August, 2011. <a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2011\/08\/21\/rush-for-gold-intensifies\/\">At that time, gold soared<\/a> to a high that, you guessed it, gold did not surpass until the 2020 peak. The amount of searches on &#8220;how to buy gold&#8221; are significantly smaller than &#8220;gold&#8221;. On <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=today%205-y&amp;geo=US&amp;q=gold,how%20to%20buy%20gold&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an overlay of the two indices<\/a>, &#8220;how to buy gold&#8221; does not even appear. Fortunately, &#8220;how to buy gold&#8221; is more meaningful and more directly related to the trade in gold. In fact, the related topics and related queries for &#8220;how to buy gold&#8221; are more gold-related than the search on &#8220;gold&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Trade<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The exact peak in US search interest for &#8220;how to buy gold&#8221; occurred on April 2nd. <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/explore?date=today%203-m&amp;geo=US&amp;q=how%20to%20buy%20gold&amp;hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The daily view<\/a> shows that peak. That day was a Sunday. Two trading days later, the SPDR&nbsp;Gold Shares (GLD) surged 1.9%. Six more trading days later, <a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2023\/04\/16\/no-worries-as-volatility-rewinds-to-start-of-2022-the-market-breadth\/\">GLD gapped up with a 1.4% gain that transformed into an abandoned baby top<\/a>. According to the GMTC, this proximity is enough to signal some kind of top for GLD. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While GLD likely printed a top, <a href=\"https:\/\/inflationwatch.wordpress.com\/2023\/04\/17\/a-golden-inflation-conundrum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I doubt we have seen THE top for gold<\/a>. I sold half of my GLD call spreads into the gap up, but I held the other half.
