Bitcoin fell 39.1% on March 12th just as the crash was accelerating. The S&amp;P 500 (SPY) continued to sell off for another week and a half after Bitcoin crashed. By the time the S&amp;P 500 bottomed Bitcoin had rebounded by 38.6% and effectively confirmed <a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2020\/03\/21\/quick-hopeful-case-for-new-bitcoin-bottom\/\">the Bitcoin bottom I identified with the help of Google Trends<\/a>. Bitcoin is now on the edge of finishing a reversal of its massive loss from March 12th. At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2020\/04\/26\/t2108-update-200424\/\">the S&amp;P 500 has also recovered its losses since March 12th<\/a>. The rough correlation over time is surprising given the presumed role of Bitcoin as a currency of refuge from the fragility of conventional financial markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/200426_BTCUSD.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1400\" height=\"937\" src=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/200426_BTCUSD.png\" alt=\"Bitcoin (BTC\/USD) is slowly but surely applying upward price pressure into a potentially important test of 200DMA resistance.\" class=\"wp-image-52731\" srcset=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/200426_BTCUSD.png 1400w, https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/200426_BTCUSD-768x514.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1400px) 100vw, 1400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Bitcoin (BTC\/USD) is slowly but surely applying upward price pressure into a potentially important test of 200DMA resistance.<br><strong>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tradingview.com\/x\/HFJs3de3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TradingView.com<\/a><\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Bitcoin&#8217;s near reversal coincides with an imminent challenge of overhead resistance from its 200DMA &#8211; right on the heels of a major breakout from a previous downtrend, a move that in turn confirmed a 50DMA breakout. I am watching closely as a failure to break out from 200DMA resistance would bring me back to my earlier <a href=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2020\/02\/16\/bitcoin-trading-note-for-breakouts-10k-halving\/\">skepticism that the upcoming &#8220;halving&#8221; of Bitcoin is an undeniably bullish event<\/a>.  If Bitcoin fails at resistance, I will take profits and wait to see what happens next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1196033822186410\" data-ad-slot=\"3478942445\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, I am still bullish Bitcoin, but the cryptocurrency continues to prove itself more of a trading asset than an investing one in this more mature stage of its existence. I will start to think differently once Bitcoin breaks this correlation from financial markets. In other words, why take on the risk of a new currency if its fate continues to ebb and flow alongside conventional financial markets? Otherwise, I might as well stick to the dollar-denominated assets that remain accepted and welcome worldwide.
