For February, LGIH reported a year-over-year increase in home closings of 54.2% and a year-over-year increase of 57.1% in January and February combined. With another home closings report due soon, it looks like the stock market is bracing for very bad news. LGIH dropped today 8.7% and hit a fresh near 3-year closing low on very high trading volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"550\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/200402_LGIH.png\" alt=\"LGI Homes (LGIH) lost 8.7% and closed at a near 3-year closing low.\" class=\"wp-image-52377\"\/><figcaption>LGI Homes (LGIH) lost 8.7% and closed at a near 3-year closing low.<br><strong>Source: FreeStockCharts<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>LGIH&#8217;s poor close is particularly ominous because it is the only home builder on my watch list that closed at a new low this week. In fact, sellers have hit LGIH every day for the past 6 days. The latest loss happened on a day the S&amp;P 500 (SPY) gained 2.3% and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2020\/04\/02\/oil-rallies-10percent-after-trump-says-he-expects-saudi-arabia-russia-feud-to-end-soon.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"oil soared for its biggest one-day gain in history (opens in a new tab)\">oil soared for its biggest one-day gain in history<\/a>. LGIH has a substantial business in Texas, so part of its fate is tied to the health of the oil business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<br><script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-1196033822186410\" data-ad-slot=\"3478942445\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script><br>\n\n\n\n<p>In <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"the quarter ending September, 2019 (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/investor.lgihomes.com\/news-releases\/news-release-details\/lgi-homes-inc-reports-third-quarter-and-ytd-2019-results-and\" target=\"_blank\">the quarter ending September, 2019<\/a>, LGIH closed 44% of its homes and earned 40% of its revenue in its &#8220;Central&#8221; region which includes Texas. The region will be in focus as the housing downturn of 2020 unfolds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, note the JPMorgan Chase downgraded LGIH to underperform right at the previous low for this sell-off. The stock proceeded to rebound from that point before topping off with a 44% gain. That was one effective stay of execution!
