{"id":39509,"date":"2017-05-24T18:54:05","date_gmt":"2017-05-25T01:54:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/?p=39509"},"modified":"2017-05-24T18:54:05","modified_gmt":"2017-05-25T01:54:05","slug":"ihs-markit-jumps-news-join-sp500-index","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2017\/05\/24\/ihs-markit-jumps-news-join-sp500-index\/","title":{"rendered":"IHS Markit Jumps On News It Will Join the S&#038;P 500 Index"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes an uptrend tells traders everything they need to know. <\/p>\n<p>On May 22, 2017, <a href=\"http:\/\/drduru.com\/onetwentytwo\/2017\/05\/22\/market-pullback-to-next-strong-stocks-persist\/\" target=\"_blank\">I reviewed<\/a> the results from my scan for stocks with relative strength during times of weakness in the S&#038;P 500 (SPY). I lamented how last week&#8217;s flash of selling did not provide any good buying opportunities. So I indicated my plan to just dive in and buy a first tranche on two of my top picks. IHS Markit (INFO) was one of them, and it looks like I may have been right on time.<\/p>\n<p>INFO rose over 4% in after hours on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spice-indices.com\/idpfiles\/spice-assets\/resources\/public\/documents\/530961_info5tgnacars4jcptime6.pdf?force_download=true\" target=\"_blank\">news that S&#038;P Dow Jones Indices will add the stock to the S&#038;P 500 index<\/a> to replace TEGNA Inc. (TGNA). TGNA in turn will get demoted to the S&#038;P MidCap 400. Per S&#038;P Dow Jones Indices:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;TEGNA is spinning off Cars.com in a transaction expected to be completed prior to the open on Thursday, June 1, pending final conditions. Post the spin-off transaction, TEGNA\u2019s market capitalization will be more representative of the mid-cap market space.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Now institutions which buy the indices will need to make adjustments which will include snapping up shares of INFO. The next test is whether the buying will hold. I will be watching closely to see whether the &#8220;post-index&#8221; gains get reversed.
