The PMI came in at a strong 55.4 in July but under <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailyfx.com\/calendar?tz=-7&#038;sort=date&#038;week=2014%2F0727&#038;eur=false&#038;usd=false&#038;jpy=false&#038;gbp=true&#038;chf=false&#038;aud=false&#038;cad=false&#038;nzd=false&#038;cny=false&#038;high=true&#038;medium=true&#038;low=false\" target=\"_blank\">expectations for 57.2<\/a>. This is the lowest PMI in a year. The good news is that this is now the 17th month in a row that the PMI has been over 50, representing on-going strength in manufacturing conditions. The case for the Bank of England to raise rates sooner than later remains well intact, suggesting the British pound&#8217;s erasure of <a href=\"http:\/\/seekingalpha.com\/article\/2267063-carney-rate-hike-talk-drives-over-eager-buying-of-the-british-pound\" target=\"_blank\">June&#8217;s rate-hope gains<\/a> is a buying opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>The underlying fundamentals for the UK economy remain strong according to the July PMI:<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>Job growth remains robust:<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps most importantly, price pressures are still on the rise:<\/p>\n<p>{snip}<\/p>\n<p>All these data points support a rate hike sooner than later to get off the zero lower bound.
